Energy Systems Integration Facility
The High Performance Computing Data Center is located in the Energy System Integration Facility at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). The facility is a center for research that addresses challenges related to the interconnection of distributed energy systems and the integration of renewable energy technologies onto the electricity grid. Approximately 200 NREL researchers and support staff work in the Energy Systems Integration Facility, focusing on energy system integration, which is the analysis, design, and control of the interactions and interdependencies of renewable and other energy sources. By optimizing energy systems across multiple pathways and into the Smart Grid, we can better understand and make use of co-benefits that increase reliability and performance, reduce cost, and minimize environmental impacts.
