Request a WinHPC Account
User accounts can be requested by sending an E-mail to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Once the account has been created, an email with the details below will be sent to the user as a reminder for future reference.
There are a limited number of simultaneous connections available to the WINHPC systems. Please remember to save any work and log out of the system (via the Start menu) when you are finished. Simply quitting Remote Desktop will keep your session active and using resources unnecessarily. Your disconnected session may be automatically logged out which could result in the loss of unsaved work.
Using Remote Desktop from a PC
The login for the Windows HPC Cluster will match the user's NREL NT login/password that is used to login to their workstation. Please log out and back into your workstation for the account to be finalized. Open a Remote Desktop connection using WINHPC02 (this is the login node) as the server name.
Using Remote Desktop from a Mac
First, If you don't have Remote Desktop for Mac on your mac already, download a copy from :

Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1
Open the downloaded file, such as RDC_2.1.1_ALL.dmg, and run the installer. The installer should put the "Remote Desktop Connection" app in your Applications folder.
Look for the "Remote Desktop Connection" app in your Applications folder and start it up.
At the connection window, enter the name of the Windows system you'd like to connect to. At NREL, we usually recommend connecting to:
Enter that into the Computer: box, and click on Connect.
The next dialog window you'll see will prompt you for your user name, password, and a domain. You must prefix your username with nrel_nt\ as shown in the following example:
User name: nrel_nt\YOURUSERID Password: Domain: nrel_nt
Enter the information as noted above, using your own userID prefixed with nrel_nt\ and your own password.
NOTE: You may receive a "certificate not trusted" warning. If you do, simply click on the Connect button to continue.
If all your credential are correct and you have already requested a WINHPC account, you'll see the "Welcome to the WINHPC Cluster" screen shown below.
Remote Desktop - Remember to Log Out!
There are a limited number of simultaneous connections available to the WINHPC systems. Please remember to log out of the system (via the Start menu) when you are finished. Simply quitting Remote Desktop will eat-up a session and may leave the system in a state where you won't be able to log back in.
